Speech-Language Pathologist – Adult Inpatient Acute

Job Description:

The desired applicant will provide speech, language, swallowing, head and neck cancer care, tracheostomy and ventilator dependent care and cognitive evaluations and/or therapy services for adult acute inpatient populations. FEES training and knowledge is strongly desired and MBSS knowledge and experience required. This a full-time (40 hr/wk) position with faculty/instructor status and benefits at an academic medical center. The SLP division is an integral part of the Department of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery in the UMMC School of Medicine. Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or higher degree in field
• ASHA CCC – SLP credentials
• Certification/License: Should have or be able to apply for State of Mississippi Healthcare License to Practice Speech-Language Pathology with the Mississippi Department of Health

Duties and Responsibilities for this position:

• Ability to provide Evaluation and Interpretation with formal standardized testing for patients with Speech, Language and cognitive deficits in an inpatient acute care setting
• Complete EHR documentation in a timely fashion with appropriate clearly documented goals
• Ability to work with adult patient populations who may need augmentative communication assessments and intervention after head and neck cancer diagnosis or surgery
• Participate in divisional activities and faculty meetings in the department
• Ability to train family members or caregivers on issues related to speech, language, swallowing or cognitive, tracheostomy, Laryngectomy and TEP
• Multidisciplinary collaboration and communication with colleagues and outside SLP therapists, ENT, NP, PA and other physicians
• Complete and interpret MBSS evaluations and provide FEES evaluations to critical patients when necessary (skills and experience desired but not required)
